After getting a super-late start on Thursday, we didn't get to the cabin until after 11:00 pm (the guys were supposed to leave the next morning at about 4:00). When we pulled up, things seemed a bit strange, since there were lights on inside. We walked up to the window and looked in and it looked like the furniture had been rearranged. After calling Ken and Lisa to make sure no one else had been there recently, we looked closer and realized that the window next to the door had been bashed in with rock from the garden... The garage was open and several things had been stolen and the house was pretty messy. After calling the sheriff and waiting for the deputy to show up (aka: Barney Fife), we finally checked into a hotel at about 2:00 am.
Needless to say, the fishing trip did not happen and we ended up helping Ken and Lisa clean and secure the cabin on Friday. I'm so thankful that no one was hurt and that the thieves didn't take more than they did. Also, I'm thankful that we planned the weekend, since it could have been several weeks until anyone else would have been at the cabin. The sheriff seemed to think that whoever broke into the house intended to slowly but surely clean the whole place out.
Anyway, even though it didn't exactly go as planned, we still had a nice time with friends and had the opportunity to count our blessings and be reminded that although thieves break in and steal and moth and rust destroy, our heavenly treasures will never fade!
We did have the chance for a short hike, here are some pics from Ellie's first hiking experience:
Here she is fueling up on some of Cherie's blueberry bread before we left
Picking flowers with Cherie and Laura

Taking in the view with Daddy
Sam and Laura
Once she found this puddle, it was hard to tear her away!
She was pretty worn out after the hike!
