It was a pretty rude awakening for both of us... he hasn't pulled really tough hours since a couple of months after Ellie was born. As it turned out, in June he would more than make up for lost time:) He was Q4, meaning on-call every 4th night (ie: works at the hospital for 30-32 hours with no sleep), and didn't end up getting very many days off. All in all he's enjoyed it though. As much as we both loved the year of research, he said getting back into the hospital confirms for him his desire to see patients (which is a good thing since we've put 4 years into this and more $$ in school loans than you care to know about!!)
Anyway, here is a pic of him "putting Ellie to bed" on his first day post-call:

welcome back to real life! Hope 4th year is great - can't wait to hear about the interview trail. We are loving Denver so far and are going on our first camping adventure over July 4th weekend so we'll let you know how it goes! by the way, Ellie is PRECIOUS! and the nursemaids elbow story is a good learning point for me!
That is just classic! I love that he crashed with her too! "Sure, honey.... Let ME put Ellie to bed!"
