Day Trip to Lexington

On Saturday we ventured out from Boston for the day and visited Lexington, MA. It's actually only about 10 miles outside of Cambridge, but since it required us getting in the car, it felt like a big excursion!

Lexington was first settled in 1642! It was also the site of the first battle of the Revolution and was such a charming little town. We got to see the Munroe Tavern, which served as the "redcoat" headquarters during the battle (and later as a hospital after their retreat from near-by Concord).

Also, we got to see the Hancock-Clarke House where John Hancock and Samuel Adams were sleeping the night that Paul Revere's "midnight ride" to warn them of the British coming.


The highlight of the day for Ellie was definitely a stop into a toy store where we found a great deal on a miniature stroller for her baby doll. She pretty much insisted on pushing the "stroll-stroll" the rest of the time we were there (which, needless to say, made our day a bit longer than planned :-).

Now, onto the food. We are basically eating our way through Boston, so it shouldn't surprise you that I have another food post! But this place was really fantastic. I just couldn't believe what we got for the price! It was really no more than it would have cost to eat at a Chili's or somewhere similar, but the food/presentation/etc. was SO GOOD! It was called "Not Your Average Joe's" and we pretty much only chose to stop there because they had outdoor seating and it was a nice day to sit outside (plus, I don't feel as bad if Ellie makes a total mess on a patio!) We got lucky, though, because lunch was de-lish!!

OK, since you're dying to know, here's what we had =)

I ordered:
Almond Crusted Goat Cheese Salad
Served warm over mixed baby greens with fresh raspberries, caramelized pepper pecans and raspberry vinaigrette
My mom ordered:

Vine Ripened Native Tomato and Fresh Mozzarella SaladSliced beefsteak tomatoes from Pepin’s Farm in Easthampton, MA, fresh mozzarella cheese and pizza crisps, drizzled with extra virgin olive oil and balsamic vinegar

And Daniel ordered the less-exciting, but still very tasty,
Goat Cheese and Sun-dried Tomato Pizza
With whole roasted garlic and basil pesto

And, no surprise, Ellie didn't eat anything (I honestly don't know how she doesn't waste away to nothing... the child WON'T EAT!)
