Master Bathroom Renovation

Just doing a little catching up and posting some updates from home renovations. Other than the kitchen, the master bathroom was the most major re-do in the house.

Here is a "before" pic from the MLS listing when we bought the house:

We started by gutting the vanity area, which was covered in carpet and wallpaper. They had to break the vanity top to get it out the door!

The wallpaper turned out to pretty much be the bane of our existence. It was apparently applied by the builder of the house 25 years ago directly onto the drywall (there was no layer of drywall mud to peel it from) and it was a P-A-I-N to get it off! We basically wasted 2 days (with 2 people (at least) constantly working). We rented a steamer, applied gallons of water and "TSP" wallpaper glue remover, used the "tiger paw", and still it came off in teeny tiny strips leaving a residue behind.

Soooo, after 2 days of that there were still 2 walls left with wallpaper! Agh! We finally gave up hired a drywall guy to come out and skim the walls with new drywall mud over the existing wallpaper so we could start from scratch (wish we would've known to do that from the start!)

Anyway, after we jumped-ship on the wallpaper debacle, Daniel and Derek took over and tiled the floor. This was Daniel's first attempt at tiling, and I have to say, it turned out great! The floor was finished just in time for my dad to come in town and help re-plumb the single vanity into a double-vanity. After that, they placed the new vanity cabinets and built a facade in the middle to make it look like one (It saved us some $$ from buying one large one... (that was my mom's idea!) plus we had an odd-sized space to work with).

Ellie thought it was really funny that the potty was in the bath tub!

After a coat of paint, a mirror from TJ Maxx, and installing a new light fixture, we were there! Here are the "after" pics:

Daniel found the light fixture on a clearance table at Lowes. I really liked it b/c I though the square globes echoed the squares in the tile pattern...
... Daniel did a great job on the floor! *note- sadly this is probably the cleanest my bathroom floor will ever be =)

We used a curtain that had been hanging in our bedroom at the old house, and the look was complete!

You are SO lucky to have your Dad for these kind of projects. I know you guys do so much of it on your own but to have a dad who knows everything about plumbing...you are very lucky!

It looks beautiful btw. A lot of work but gorgeous!

nice job, guys! you're wonder woman to take on these remodeling projects with your 2 little ones. I can barely get motivated to scrub grout let alone peel wallpaper and lay tile!
