As a Christmas present for Ellie and Campbell, my mom helped turn their haphazard nursery into a proper big girl room. Campbell had pretty much outgrown her crib and every night Ellie was either climbing into the crib to sleep with Campbell, or Campbell was climbing out of it to sleep with Ellie.
We finally gave in and decided that sharing a full sized bed is much better than cramming into a crib together! So, Daniel got busy building them a storage bed (which turned out so nicely!) It's perfect for the room, because we really don't have the space in there for a dresser, so they each have their own side of the bed and that's where we store all their socks, shoes, jammies, blankets, baby dolls, etc. It frees the closet up for play clothes and they've been doing a surprisingly good job at keeping the place organized (it helps that I printed labels with photos for them... super geeky).
Anyway, here are some pictures of the finished product... I should have taken some 'before's because it was pretty much a hodge podge with no clear place to put things... that that makes it all the better now that it's all organized and neat!
To sum up what we did and didn't have to do:
-wall color stayed the same- just needed some touch ups
-most of the decorative accessories we already had from their previous room or I stole from somewhere else in the house
-quilt came from Target - though I did have to shorten in on one side because it hung over so far that it made it tough to get the baskets (also from Target) in and out
-bookcase came from Target online
-shelves were from Lowes
-bedside tables from PB Kids (and the cute rose petal knobs from Anthropologie)
-The butterfly mobile and lamps came from Babies R Us... I'm planning on sprucing up the shades a little, but am waiting for some ribbon which is currently back-ordered :(
-Daniel got the plans for the bed here
They both loved the room! Ellie especially was overly dramatic (if you can fathom such a thing) in her enthusiasm about the room. At one point she flopped on the bed and sighed, "Could this really be true!?!" I posted a (largely unedited - sorry!) video below of their reactions when they saw it for the first time.
Thanks Gramps and Mimi for the new room! What an awesome Christmas present!
